LOUD X: An outdoor celebration of LOUD Bands and Food Trucks
LOUD X: An outdoor celebration of LOUD Bands and Food Trucks Dead Hot Workshop, Sugar Thieves, the Pistoleros
The Tempe History Museum presents a family-friendly event with LOUD music and bold flavors. Join us on February 13 for LOUD X, an evening outdoor concert featuring 3 of Tempe’s best bands. Sweet Magnolia food truck will be selling BBQ and Coffee Run will sell drinks.
Dead Hot Workshop has been a popular fixture of the Tempe music scene since the 1990s, getting their start at a Tempe club named Long Wong's, which was at the center of downtown Tempe's music scene. Their music is a mix of country, folk and rock. Singer and songwriter Brent Babb has been described as the "Poet Laureate of Mill Avenue.”
The Sugar Thieves were born in 2006, in a smoky dive bar in Tempe. They began as a duo with Mikel Lander and Meridith Moore on guitar and vocals. By adding upright bass, keys & sax and drums, they have become one of the hardest working bands around. Over the past several years they've independently produced and released seven albums and have won the Phoenix Blues Society's "Arizona State Blues Showdown" three times.
The Pistoleros started out as The Chimeras, a Mill Avenue mainstay, founded in 1992. The crew landed a major label deal with Hollywood Records, changed their name to The Pistoleros, and released "Hang On To Nothing.” In 2014, Pistoleros signed with Fervor Records, leading to the 2015 release of "Shine," their first new studio album under their new label. They recorded a second album "Silver," which was released in November 2017. In July 2019, the Pistoleros earned their place in the Arizona Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame and continue to be a local favorite. Bring a lawn chair for this free, family-friendly outdoor concert. Free admission and family-friendly~

In 1885, Tempe was chosen as the site for a Territorial Normal School for teachers. Arizona State University was established in 1958. Since the beginning, ASU has played a major role in Tempe’s history. Both have grown, sharing many accomplishments. Foremost in ASU academics these days is the “ASU School of Earth and Space Exploration” (SESE), which brings together all disciplines of Earth and space science, breaking traditional disciplinary boundaries to ask the biggest questions in science, technology, engineering and beyond! SESE brings together the brightest minds to understand Earth and space through authentic research. In this talk, we will highlight several of SESE’s past and current missions with NASA, geological discoveries, engineering advances, and what to expect in the future.
Japhy’s Descent plays music that is glass rattling, toe tapping, mind altering magic wrapped in a fun bow... that you can't have until your birthday. For almost a decade they have been rocking out in every local venue throughout the Phoenix metro area. Their combination of blues, hard rock and classic rock comes in an electrifying sound, especially in their stunning live shows. It seems everything they do is a blues drenched, psychedelic rock odyssey. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy these local rockers.

Moonlight Magic
Moonlight Magic
Moonlight Magic consists of some longtime mainstays on the Phoenix music scene: Jaime Paul Lamb (composer/guitarist), Andrew Jemsek (organ/accordion/composer), Ruth Wilson (electric and upright bass), Eddy Detroit (percussion) and Steve Asetta (saxophone/percussion). Moonlight Magic formed out of a mutual love of all things lounge, exotica, and bossa nova. They are all huge fans of composers such as Martin Denny, Les Baxter, Burt Bacharach & Antonio Carlos Jobim. Moonlight magic plays all their own material, exclusively. The band’s sound is about the hippest representation of 60’s lounge culture one is likely to find here in the Valley. Meet the band in a QnA session after the show. Free, informal and family-friendly~
