Description

Author Frederick B. Wildfang and photographer Linda Spears document the history and changes of Tempe’s historic rise from a small, nondescript farming community to the lively, vibrant, urban center of today.

Soon after Charles Trumbull Hayden’s arrival in 1870, he built the first canal on the south side of the Salt River, followed by a store, flour mill, and a cable ferry across the river.  Since then, Tempe has transformed from that small farming community to Arizona’s 7th largest city.
